THE ONLY THING EVERYONE wanted to do after the water park was take a nice, hot shower. Mrs. Jones refused to let everyone use the tiny shower, so Mr. Jones led them down the trail to the shower house closest to the RV.

Cassie stayed in the shower longer than necessary. The hot water steamed up in the stall and billowed around her. She closed her eyes and waved it in her face, inhaling the misty warmth. Slowly the cold infused in her bones started to peel away.

“Cassie?” Emily called. “Annette went back with Daddy. I’m supposed to wait for you. Are you almost done?”

She did not want to be done. But the shampoo was out of her hair, and her body no longer felt cold. She turned the water off and counted to five before opening the stall door. The chilly air blasted over her, and she jerked the towel around her body, rubbing her skin and drying off as quickly as possible.

“Should we sleep in the tent tonight?” Emily asked.

Cassie pulled on her pajamas. “No way. I only just got warm again.”

“Yeah. Me too.”

They trooped back to the RV, where Mrs. Jones was setting the table for dinner.

“Mom,” Cassie said, “I don’t think it’s a good idea if we sleep outside. It might rain, and everything will get wet again.”

“That’s fine,” her mom said. “Just sit down and eat.”
